Earlier this month, JICUF and ICU agreed to establish a graduate scholarship for students who have fled conflict and relocated to Japan. JICUF and ICU already offer full undergraduate scholarships to two new students with refugee backgrounds annually through the Japan Education Pathways program, and will add one full scholarship in the master’s program starting spring 2026.
As advocates for expanding higher education opportunities for students with refugee backgrounds, JICUF and ICU have decided to support students at the graduate level as well. Providing scholarships for these students is often seen as a humanitarian action, but these students bring an invaluable perspective and experiences which enrich the campus community in countless ways. Especially for a university committed to nurturing global citizens who contribute to peace and humanity, their presence is a privilege.
Applications for admission in April 2026 for both undergraduate and graduate students will be open from August 25 until September 15, 2025. Applicants should already reside in Japan and have a certain level of proficiency in the Japanese language. For more details, please visit the JEP website.
